Toronto

SyllaBuddy for University of Toronto students.

Every U of T course outline you upload becomes one calendar, a daily to-do, and a chat that answers “what do I need on the final” from your actual syllabus. It reads scans, reads each document twice, and pulls in your Quercus calendar too.

Works with Quercus

U of T runs Canvas. Connect your personal calendar feed and every due date a professor posts appears next to what's in the outline, with duplicates hidden.

Any course, any faculty. A PDF is a PDF.

Why Quercus alone misses things

Quercus only shows what a professor entered inside it with a due date attached. That is accurate for what's there and silent about everything else: a midterm announced only in the outline, an in-class quiz, homework on an outside platform, a textbook opt-out deadline. The course outline is where those live, which is why SyllaBuddy reads it first and treats the Quercus feed as a second source.

Connect your Quercus calendar

About three minutes, once. After that it keeps itself up to date.

  1. Sign in to Quercus in a browser. The mobile app can't give you the link.
  2. Open Calendar from the left-hand navigation.
  3. At the bottom right, click Calendar Feed.
  4. Copy the URL it shows. It's private to you, so treat it like a password.
  5. In SyllaBuddy, go to You, then Connect, and paste it.

How U of T grades

U of T converts your percentage in each course to a letter and then to grade points on a 4.0 scale, where 4.0 is the top. Your GPA is those points averaged across your courses, usually weighted by credit.

SyllaBuddy tracks your marks as percentages against the weights in each outline, which works the same on any scale. For the full U of T letter table and the registrar's own wording, see the U of T grading scale on cutoffs.ca.

Three minutes, then it runs your term

  1. Sign up with any email. Pick University of Toronto, your term dates, and how many courses you're taking.
  2. Upload each course outline as a PDF. About a minute each, scans fine. Add your timetable so class times and rooms show up too.
  3. Open it each morning. Tick things off. Ask it questions. Push it to Google or Apple Calendar if you'd rather live there.

Questions from U of T students

Does SyllaBuddy work with Quercus?

Yes, two ways. It reads your U of T course outlines directly, which is where most dates and weights actually live, and you can paste your personal Quercus calendar feed so anything a professor posts there shows up alongside, with duplicates removed.

What grading scale does U of T use?

U of T converts your percentage in each course to a letter and then to grade points on a 4.0 scale, where 4.0 is the top. Your GPA is those points averaged across your courses, usually weighted by credit. The full letter-to-percentage table, with the registrar source, is on cutoffs.ca.

Why doesn't my Quercus calendar show every assignment?

An LMS calendar only shows items a professor created inside Quercus with a due date attached. Midterms announced only in the outline, in-class quizzes, and homework on outside platforms often never appear. Uploading the outline fills those gaps.

Is SyllaBuddy affiliated with University of Toronto?

No. It's an independent study tool that works with any course outline. University of Toronto doesn't endorse it, and the logo belongs to the university.
