How it works

Syllabus PDFs in. Your whole term out.

Five minutes on the first day of term, and you stop reading course outlines for the rest of it. Here is exactly what happens to each document and what you get back.

  1. 1

    You upload your syllabi

PDFs, scans, photos of a printout, your class timetable. One at a time, about a minute each. Most students do all five courses in one sitting on the first day of term and never open the PDFs again.

Nothing is shared with anyone. The file is read and the structured result is kept; you can delete a course, and everything it held, with one button.

  2. 2

    It reads every page, twice

The first pass pulls out every graded item with its weight and date, class times and rooms, key dates like add/drop and reading week, and the rules that actually bite: late penalties, missed-work policy, what a zero looks like.

The second pass re-reads the document against the first pass's own notes, looking for what it missed. Anything it worked out from a rule ("Week 3", "one week after the lab") is flagged so you can check it against the outline once.

  3. 3

    Your term appears

One calendar across every course, Sunday to Saturday. A Today list in order of what matters. A hub per course with every assessment, your marks as you enter them, and the outline's fine print in plain language.

Different sections often have different dates. Tell it your section or cohort and it keeps only yours; tell it later and it fixes the ones already in.

  4. 4

    Then it stays useful

Tick things off for XP and a streak. Ask questions out loud or by text and get answers from your own outlines, not the internet. A short briefing lands Sunday night, and a nudge the morning of anything big.

One tap puts the whole term in Google or Apple Calendar, with alarms, kept in sync when a date changes.

Questions people actually ask

Is SyllaBuddy free?

Yes. Upload your syllabi, use the calendar, the daily list, the chat and the emails without paying. There is no trial and no card.

How accurate is it?

It is careful, not perfect. Two independent reads of every document catch most of what one read misses, and anything computed from a rule rather than stated outright is flagged for you to check. Confirm anything that matters against the outline or your LMS before you rely on it.

What file types work?

PDF, including scanned ones and photos of a printed page. If your school gives you a Word file, print or export it to PDF first.

Does it work with Avenue to Learn, Canvas, Brightspace or Quercus?

Yes, two ways. Syllabus dates usually beat what is posted in the LMS, and you can also paste your LMS calendar feed URL so anything a professor posts there shows up alongside.

My section has different dates than the outline lists. What then?

Tell Buddy your section or cohort, in onboarding or on any course page, and it keeps only your dates and drops the other sections'. It remembers, so re-uploading the outline will not undo it.

Can my classmates use my upload?

Yes. Every course page has a share link. A classmate opens it, sees every date and weight, and adds the course to their own account in one tap without uploading anything.

What happens to my documents?

They are read to build your course record and are not sold, published or shared. Deleting a course deletes what came from it. The privacy page has the details.

Which schools does it support?

Any university or college whose courses come with an outline. It is built and tested in Canada, with school-specific notes for McMaster, Western, Waterloo, Toronto, Queen's, Laurier, Guelph, York, UBC, McGill and more.
